Not that it’s a surprise, but NFL football is America’s love. Sure, this country has had a long lasting affair with baseball, and depending on who plays in the NBA Finals, America will eagerly tune in. But this nation loves NFL football. And the love is unwavering. Think about it.
You know the NFL is great when the best player in the league—Tom Brady–suffers a season ending injury in week one, and yet the league becomes even more interesting to watch.
You know the NFL is great when a team like the New York Giants can win the Superbowl and still be doubted due to league parity.
You know the NFL is great when rookie quarterbacks—like Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan—can manage their teams to victories, while veteran quarterbacks—Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer—struggle to regain their form.
You know the NFL is great when a young man like Jay Cutler can be diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and still play at a high level.
You know the NFL is great when a storied franchise like the Buffalo Bills finally start to win again.Â
You know the NFL is great when highly drafted (and highly paid) signal callers like Vince Young and Alex Smith warm the bench while their “journey-man†backups take over and actually improve their respective clubs.
You know the NFL is great when controversial calls by the refs actually add a level of intrigue to the league.
You know the NFL is great when a 39-year-old legendary quarterback in New York can throw twice as many touchdown passes in one game as the Rams had scored all season up to that point.
Clearly the NFL is one of a kind due to the sheer unpredictability of the league. The idea that any team can win and nothing is guaranteed. That is why we watch. That is why we love NFL football.
